Christmas...clothes and parties.

First up is Bob O'Neils Studio party...sort of office party. So this is the look. Trying to be professional and smart but at the same time party. Velvet peplum skirt, black blouse. Though big boots, grippy for the Cumbria Winter.

Weekend Inspiration: Satoyama: Japan’s Secret Watergarden

It was suggested I watched this relating to my new design project by my tutor Vicky. I have to say it is an amazing set-up and town where the water works with everything.

If your going to brand BRAND BIG

Love these hunter boots, so many people especially in Edinburgh buy un-needed wellies for the rain, and buy hunters. I have decided if I am going to buy for the brand I may as well have the biggest logo I can get, and people say I'm like I guy. Size matters!

Or maybe these, the sensible, cheap option designed for farmers still made by Hunter...

Move 3 : Jig and Tracing Floor

So the end of group work, well it will be on Tuesday evening when my Practice and Law 3 day exam begins. But here's what I've been working on the last three weeks:

Along with a drawing that goes with it but hey I don't have a copy of that. So after my exam the individual project for the christmas exhibit is beginning. Along with that a bit of volunteering for PLACED.org and the return of ballet and beginning of hip-hop and shocker in no time it'll be christmas. So need to think about investing in my Christmas Party dress....

Bit of Victoria Secret may be on the cards I think!!

Then next year in March see's the return and final Architecture Ball.... Might hire for that....

In the meantime gotta save my christmas money and student loan for Rosetta Stone Russian, to achieve my 2013 goals.

Back from Cordoba and into work...

Ok so I'm back from Spain and i must say, even though I have now visited Spain three times and it is one of my favourite places (bar the heat) Cordoba is completely different and interesting, I am not entirely sure I'd return but I would advise anyone to go. The city was part of Al-Andalus which was a Moorish state and as such Cordoba is half Spain and half like being in Morroco or an Arab state.

It is reknowned for its tolerance under Moorish control as the city had Mosques, Synagos and Churches. Until the Reconquista by the Christian Spainsh, when they built a Cathedral inside the great Mesquita (Mosque) which makes the craziest juxtaposition of buildings I have ever seen. The Cathedral rises out of the Mosque as if squatting on it, and dominating the skyline along with the spire which used to be a Minaret.

Ruined mills, on a calmer day the one on the right is clearly visable but there is one behind the
trees in the shadows on the left that is barely visable.

My site is, in my obviously bias opinion the best part of the city, it is the abandoned mills in the river, visable from the Roman bridge, they were built by the Moors, who were experts in Irrigation and Hydrology and in bringing water and life to what was previously a pretty desert like landscape on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. ( despite our tutors and health and safety we  decided the only way to see our site was to wade into the river, which had flooded the day before due to the worst rain spain had see in 30 years! Plus the site is a nature reserved and off limits to the public, its ok though the Policia only saw us the second time, although our tutor Vicky expected a call from the inquistion haha!) These Mills ground grain into flour and later some were adapted for use in creating textiles. One; Albolafia Molino was created to lift the waters the ten meters from the River to the city. However this great wheel was disabled on the order's of Spainish Queen Isabella after the Reconquista who said it made too much noise for her to sleep.

OUR ROUTE TO THE DESERTED, MID-STREAM MILLS

Anyhow now we are working on a model of this site, but Edinburgh Uni style so its a bit of a difference from what I'm used to; for example we will be using Oak!!! We are also constructed a drawing that explores what information we gathered from the trip and should help us utilise it. But between this I have also been doing some second year teaching, I will be working for the University on the next open day, and I have PLACED volunteer work to try and shoe horn in as ideally I would like to attend a workshop before Christmas, probably in Manchester. So keep ya posted...

Fruits of...ten minutes labour

All my own work, though with a bit of help off YouTube I have modelled two teapots, one in glass with a surrounding reflected in the materials. Now i really want to re-model the old mirrored photography studio on Reykjavik but it will probably have to wait until after Cordoba, still progress as long as I don't forget how to do it tommorow.

SEPTEMBER.1

This is already panning out to be crazy but interesting month. I have my first mini project for uni preparing for Cordoba, which i am heading out to at the end of September until October.

I have been accepted by PLACED to be a student ambassador ( more on this when I have attended my first event) but basically its introducing school kids 11-18 to Architecture and construction. http://www.placed.org.uk/

Loving Plan B, ill manners to listen to mp3, (its so clever! not as much as eminem obviously by brilliant.) Keane Strangeland vinyl. Last night i saw the new Joe Wright production of Anna Karenina and it was amazing, I love a film that when you leave you don't really know how you feel but you feel different just a little bit like your in imperial Russia, the stage system worked amazingly and it was stunning but nothing less than you'd expect from the director of Atonement and Pride and Prejudice.

Don't tell my mum!

Ok so I am going to invest, thats right INVEST in some music, Rita Ora is out today and I cannot ignore any protege of the great Jay-Z so there we go.

Plus its getting a little wintery today and since I am out of cash to do anything (I know i am buying music!) I will complete my 3ds Max work for the day listening to harry potter then wander around in the currently occuring fabulous rain with my new music, this is where a car comes in handy for the orginal judgement of said music.

Tuesday 21 August 2012

new project

So this is what  I am trying to learn and so far, ok, want to get some similar images to this of my more recent projects. The following image is not mine but is 3ds Max and V-ray.

Cannot wait!!!

Summer?

Perhaps summer is finally here, I'm wearing the short dresses and heels (the drawing which i will share shortly) but its my favourite time of year, September Vogue and ELLE will be out in August and I can begin to fathom an autuwn/winter wardrobe just the best time of year, layering, scarves!!!

I actually cannot wait. In the meantime I want to go to the beach, that end of summer beach day, and feel like I did the other weekend, in Cumbria (one of the most dramatic places; not least for the weather) it was sunny when I set out on a walk in wellies and I got absolutely drenched, that truly soaking rain and the beauty of living out of a suitcase means i got to borrow my mums cardigan whilst my stuff was in the dryer, it did look amazing with the soaking hair and half dressed appearance... Just dreaming of summer as a child when it was all about that.

Anyway more excitingly at the moment the A/W12 collection for ERA jewellery is approaching ready-ness and I am tasked with brainstorming the new promotion, it is brilliant and I cannot wait for the feedback from the boss. But I will share what I'd loosely term a business card, just trying to streamline the presentation. (Something I really need to do with my own work)

ECA Fashion Show 2012

Ok sorry I only have images from the programme at the moment, trying to locate the actual photos from the show. This year the show was at the Playfair Library in the Edinburgh University, following the two institutions merger.

I have chosen four of the students work that I just thought was amazing, not mentioning the performance costume portion of the show which was just incredible!!!

Eva Ng

The work experience at Gareth Pugh really shows up in this collection, it was beautiful soft tailoring wrapping and twisting often with asymmetrical cuts, it was just beautiful, the colour palette was very dark to emphasise the texture, but these in lighter colours would be beautiful this A/W.

Jacqueline Mclardie

This collection was inspired by 1940's film noir and it was obvious light and shadow played a part, but it was a shame that finishing details such as the belt were missing in the show because I felt it was such a key part of the look to hold it together.

Nicola Davidson

Ok so this is my complete favourite collection, the tailoring was beautiful and the leather jackets were the key thing to me, I wouldn't be surprised if they were all bought up during the degree show, they were truly exceptional. The leather had been plaited, woven, patched with embroidery. I think the designers blurb sums it up.
"I've found continuity in both layering and texture that has resulted in a study of leather manipulation to accompany both woven and knitwear fabrics."
Simply exceptional, watch out for it in the Graduate fashion week in London.

Lyndsay McNeill
Ok I think collection, like a lot of them to be fair just showed some excellent tailoring, I have been the to ECA fashion show before but this year the detail and fit were definately better than previously, really wearable pieces in a very current colour palette.
